We thought it might be
appropriate for us to share our “lifestyle” and “belief system”
around our family of Tartuffe
Bullmastiffs and
Dogue de
Bordeaux. We believe passionately in trying to maintain good
structure and condition in our stock i.e. that our dogs could
efficiently and effectively manage a day’s work if called upon
to so do. We run our dogs out over some fairly rough terrain
thus maintaining a level of fitness commensurate with the task
for which they were bred.
We have recently bought a fabulous cottage in a remote part of
Lanarkshire and are in the process of having it completely
renovated to meet our needs and those of the dogs. We will
probably be demented by the time it is ready for our occupation
but will keep you posted!!

Our
management of the dogs at
Tartuffe is very demanding but
undoubtedly reaps the rewards we seek – fit, happy and
healthy dogs. We feed only a natural diet and the benefits
are obvious not only in our show age dogs but particularly
in both our young growing dogs and our senior citizens.

Exercise is
also central to our management of the dogs. We try to give each
of our dogs a daily period of free running over rough terrain
although sometimes the Scottish weather is too much for even our
hardy disposition!! It is incredible to see our dogs raise and
almost catch pheasant, rabbits and grouse. We are much relieved
to report that as yet we have not had to rescue any quarry –
let’s hope they don’t improve with practice!! Obviously we do
not expose our young stock to such a rigorous exercise programme
– they tend to be “free range” puppies who enjoy the freedom to
wander and explore their world – often to our regret – we have
very few plants which survive to share this period of growth and
discovery!!!

Finally,
we cannot stress enough the importance of, and the sheer
enjoyment we derive from the company of our dogs. Whilst we have
a fairly large family, all of our dogs enjoy time in the house
with us on a regular, if not daily basis. They particularly
enjoy the space in front of the Rayburn and are so often unable
or unwilling to admit that it is just too damned hot for them!!
Bullmastiffs and Dogue de Bordeaux need people – even if they
don’t deserve the ones they get!!

I hope that this discourse has given you an
insight into how we live with value our dogs. We are very
particular in choosing homes for our
pups as we take the
responsibility for their future very seriously and firmly
believe that we play a crucial role in this process throughout
their lives
